Over many months now and reading countless blogs / forum posts the question is often asked can we still make money from a directory and or blog, how do we maximise our income ?, how or what is the best way to monotonies a directory / blog ?.
Regardless of where you look the message all has the same theme, this is then backed up by countless emails with every inter-net guru offering the best, the fastest and the biggest return in exchange for their services.
One would not be wrong to think that running a directory and or blog must be all about making the money, and in many way i would agree that even in some small way every site in some way needs to be funded and these funds for most come from the sites owners and or through a revenue based income from that site.
It would also be wrong to say that people who are good at what they do should not receive a income from their work and it is fair to also say the better one gets that the income should also reflect the energy and passion that is rightfully deserved.
But I pose this question, who out there as webmaster also practices the opposite and gives part of their incoming away to other deserving causes ?. After all as above we see countless ways to make the money, but count on one hand any site willing to give some away, it simply is not a popular topic.
In some ways I think a webmaster feels they are behind this invisible curtain called the www. and who will notice or know who i am and probably in that feel there is no need to give some back in some small way. Perhaps if you have the answers you could share them with us all.
To change some of this around tryinhere.com has a committed to operating a community fund based on a % of incoming funds, and although we are in early days and still spending some money from our own pockets have found some ways to start this process and as time moves forward we look forward to helping a variety of charities across the www. in areas we operate in.
We alone can not even hope to cover even a small fly speck on the many people who are in need for support in some way, but I ask you as a webmaster, what small difference do you make ? Can you open up and help in your local community ?
If you already do have a comminty project or plan to drop us a reply with the URL to your site and share what your site does so that others can see your work.
Here is a few pics from a recent toy run we helped out with some presents for the children and link to our COMMUNITY section. A special mention and thanks to Jac & Eamon for the great pics on the day.
